Band Biography
A group of young musicians from the Khulna Khalishpur neighborhood Ashikh, Rana, Jewel, Rasel, and Sumi formed the band Lalon in 2001. Sumi moved to Dhaka the capital of Bangladesh to do music professionally in 2006 and started recording the Biprotip album along with composer Meer Masum and songwriter Ashikh. The album “Biprotip” came to market in 2007 under the Sound Machine audio label. The powerful unique folk singing of Sumi blended with a fusion style of music could attract listeners' minds at first glance. Sumi, Masum, and Ashikh decided to appoint Titi Maung as band leader to take the band to the next level.
Sento (bass), G Mass (GTR), Limon (GTR), and Fakir Rajib (songwriter) were good friends of Titi Maung for a long time. They started practice at Sound Machine studio Mohgbazar. Sumi became a dedicated follower of Fakir Lalon Shai under the guidance of Guru Shofy Mondol to learn more about his songs and philosophy at that time. They all together started to record 2nd album Khepa at Bengal Recording Studio. “Khepa '' came to market in 2010 and became the turning point of massive success. The band became popular countrywide and got wide acceptance among young and old. The band started performing abroad and participated in music festivals around the world.
The band had a big change in the lineup in 2010. All members except Sumi and Titi left the band. Titi Maung started recording Pagol all alone with sound engineer Taposh Dey. Salekin (Gtr), Bappy (Gtr), and Turjo (bass) joined the band just before the release of “Pagol” in 2012. This lineup reorganized the songs of the Pagol album made popular through live performance. Salekin, Turjo and Sumi became the iconic characters for their stunning live performance. This lineup also recorded a live version of the Pagol song at Incursion Jam Pad and Fuad Al Muktadir produced the video which became a popular version of the song. Ratul and Rafi joined the band in 2013 as guitar players. The band had the honor to perform at the United Nations headquarters in New York in front of Secretary General Bun Ki Moon in 2014.
The band started to record two albums at the same time in Accousic Artz studio with two different concepts. The Fourth album “Shada Kalow'' got released in 2018 through the digital platform Gaan App. The band decided to defer the release of Baul’s fo Bengal album since releasing an album no longer carries enough value for a band. The band decided to release the EP through youtube and digital media. Band decided to use the sound of a keyboard and Clinton Pratik Prottoy Bairagee joined the band in 2019.
The band also launched a collaboration music program on a regular basis with young artists. Recorded and released “Fera” with the Shohojia band and more songs are waiting to be released soon under this program.
The band released EP “Ruhani '' in 2020. Recomposed and released Bhora Chande in 2021. Also released one recomposition of the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendro song “Shono Ekti Mujiborer”. Ratul and Rafi moved abroad and Clinton left the band during and just after COVID. Arafat Bosunia joined as a keyboard player and Mohonto Sarker joined as a guitar player in 2022. The band started to explore backing vocals where Thamid and Faiyas took place as guest artists. EP Pagla Ghora was released in 2023. Pagol Chine Na is another EP about to release at the end of April 2023. Songwriter Pagol Hasan from Sylhet made a huge contribution to create 3 recent singles of Band Lalon titled Ruhani, Pagla Ghora, and Pagol Chine Na.
The successful Leadership of Titi Maung for the last 12 years had been appreciated by the band by honoring him to be introduced as a composer in 2023. Titi Maung composed many solely, jointly and played a major role to compose and release 40 songs for the band. Titi Maung announced to include R&B, Hip Hop sound to blend with folk as the upcoming musical experiment of the band. And currently the band is working on that.
